R. W. Alley has illustrated Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear books, in all their formats, for more than 20 years. This year has seen a celebration of Paddington’s 60th year with exhibitions of all things Paddington at various venues in England and Japan, as well as a “Paddington Comes to America” celebration at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts. Apart from the Paddington books, R. W. Alley also collaborates with his wife, the author Zoë B. Alley. Their book There’s A Wolf at the Door was selected as a Washington Post Best Book of the Year and its companion book of reinvented fairy tales, There’s a Princess in the Palace, received equally happy reviews.
